Here are some additional details about the benefits that veterans and their families may be eligible for:

  • The $3,649 a month tax-free benefit is known as the Veterans Pension and it is available to wartime veterans who have limited income and assets. This benefit can help cover long term care costs, including in-home care, assisted living, or nursing home care.
  • There is also a benefit called Aid & Attendance that provides an extra monthly payment for veterans or their spouses who need help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or eating.

Spouses

These benefits are not just for the veteran, but also apply for the spouses. As long as the spouse is age 65 or older or has a permanent disability, they may also be eligible for the Veterans Pension and Aid and Attendance benefits.
